Paolo Biscari is the Vice Rector for Talent Development at Politecnico di Milano and Full Professor of Condensed Matter Physics in the Department of Physics. He has a Master’s Degree and Doctorate in Physics from the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa.
He previously held the role of Elected Member of the Academic Senate and Director of the School of Doctoral Studies at Politecnico di Milano. He is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the EUA-CDE (Council for Doctoral Education of the European Universities Association). He is also Editor-in-Chief of the European Physical Journal Plus (Springer, Q1 in the category “Physics, Multidisciplinary”) and Editor of the Unitext Springer book series.
His research focuses on soft matter, with a particular emphasis on shape-memory alloys, elastoplasticity, random Ising patterns and liquid crystals. He has published over 70 research articles in international journals, written 3 books, and attended more than 75 international conferences as a Guest Speaker.
In recognition of his major contribution to applied mechanics, he received the “Bruno Finzi” Award from the Lombard Institute Academy of Sciences and Letters in 2004.
