Ilaria Valente is a Full Professor of Architectural and Urban Composition in the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Politecnico di Milano. She graduated in Architecture from the same university and obtained her PhD in Architectural Composition from Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia.
She currently serves as Vice Rector for International Affairs at the Politecnico di Milano and is a Delegate for the New European Bauhaus @Polimi project, having previously held numerous institutional roles. A member of the Academic Board for the PhD programme in Architectural Urban Interior Design – DAStU and head of the ARS Lab – Architecture Resources Strategies research laboratory of DAStU, she is also an external member of the Committee for Design Quality at the Italian Public Property Agency (Design Structure).
She has developed theories and design contributions on tools and methodologies for interventions in marginal urban areas, focusing on the form and figure of open and public spaces, as well as on descriptive and interpretive methodologies of settlement morphologies, infrastructure architecture and building infrastructure in contemporary territories.
She is the author of more than 100 essays and articles and has published and edited several monographs. A speaker at numerous international seminars and conferences, she has also served as a Visiting Critic and has delivered lectures and talks at various schools of architecture in Italy and abroad.
