How to apply

Simultaneous registration to two Study Programmes

Law (33/2022) allows for simultaneous enrolment in two study programmes and establishes certain restrictions. In particular:

  • students cannot enrol in two study programmes belonging to the same degree category
  • students can only enrol in two study programmes in different degree categories in which at least two thirds of the programmes do not overlap.

The bachelor and master's degree categories for the study programmes delivered by the Politecnico di Milano can be viewed within the teaching regulations of degree programmes.

Enrolment in two laurea magistrale courses

Admission to the master's degree programmes takes place through a specific admission application, the details of which are contained in the specific teaching regulations of the laurea magristrale.

A maximum of three laurea magistrale programmes can be specified in the application procedure. Applications that are accepted are marked with a green tick, which allows you to proceed with enrolment. If there are two green ticks or three green ticks, this means you can enrol in no more than two laurea magistrale programmes, subject to legal constraints.

For admissions to master's programmes in the AUIC school (Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering), which have special rankings, the possibility of admission to a second master's course, enrolled simultaneously, is only considered for the first ranking.

Enrolment in two laurea programmes

Admission to bachelor’s degree programmes takes place through specific admission tests:

  • TOL and alternative tests for programmes in engineering
  • TOLD for the School of Design
  • ARCHED for professional programmes in architecture
  • admission interview for the course in "Urban Planning: City, Environment & Landscape"

Candidates who sit the various entrance exams listed above will be admitted according to the provisions of the special calls for applications. Enrolment in two programmes is only permitted if eligibility for both courses is obtained, in accordance with the special calls for applications.

Enrolment in two Engineering courses via the TOL (and alternative exams)

The only admission test for bachelor’s programmes that enables simultaneous enrolment in two different degree programmes is the admission test for bachelor's degree programmes in Engineering. All other admission tests enable enrolment only in degree programmes for which simultaneous enrolment is not permitted.

Early stage

Enrolment in bachelor's degree programmes in Engineering includes a special stage, known as the "early stage", which allows those who have passed the exam in their penultimate year at high school, or have passed one of the alternative exams indicated in the call for applications, to enrol without placement in the ranking.

Students who are eligible to enrol in the early stage may, only after having enrolled in a first degree course in Engineering and meeting the deadlines set out in the call for applications for the early stage, enrol simultaneously, within the legal limits, in a second Engineering course.

Stages subsequent to the early stage

The stages following the early stage always provide for the possibility of enrolment via the rankings that make available the places remaining at the end of the preceding stage. In order to participate in these stages, students must sit either a TOL or the alternative TOLC-I (CISIA). Alternative exams accepted in the early stage cannot be used for enrolment in these stages.

Candidates interested in obtaining eligibility for two degree programmes, in order to enrol under the simultaneous enrolment mechanism, must submit a special request by 6 July 2023 using the following form:

Request form

Anyone who fails to submit a special request by the required deadline will not be taken into consideration for the rankings. The request to sit the admission test for simultaneous enrolment may only be made once during all the stages foreseen by the call for applications and shall not be valid for subsequent stages.

Enrolment in a programme at the Politecnico di Milano and a programme at another university or AFAM Institution

Enrolment at the Politecnico di Milano subsequent to enrolment at another University / AFAM institution

At the time of enrolment at Politecnico di Milano and with existing enrolment at another university, students must provide notification of enrolment at the other university/AFAM institution (academy of art/music), through the enrolment system. This disclosure is made in the form of self-certification of the details of the programme at the other university and that the student meets the requirements for simultaneous enrolment.

Self-certification must be submitted via the following form:

This declaration must be submitted to both institutions. The same declaration must also be submitted if the student changes programmes within the same university or transfers from one programme to another at different universities.

Enrolment at another University / AFAM institution following enrolment at the Politecnico di Milano

At the time of enrolment at another university / AFAM Institution, students must provide notification of this enrolment via the submission of self-certification of the details of the programme at the other university and that the student meets the requirements for simultaneous enrolment.
