Full Professor of Bioengineering since 1990, at Sapienza University of Rome until 1993 and at Politecnico di Milano later on.
He founded a school of Bioengineering which is now widely recognised internationally.
The findings made have had a significant impact on physiological knowledge and diagnostic clinical practice, specifically in the cardiovascular and neurological fields.
Fellow Member of prestigious academic institutions such as IEEE, AIMBE, EAMBES, he received the Academic Career Achievement Award from IEEE-EMBS Conference Chair of the 37th IEEE-EMBS Annual Conference, held in Milan in 2015.
He is Associate Editor of IEEE Trans Biomedical Engineering, of Physiological Measurements and a Member of the Editorial Board of Medical Engineering & Physics, Biomedical Signal Processing & Control, Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, Annals of Non-Invasive Electrocardiology, and Critical Reviews in Biomedical Engineering. He has held important institutional positions at Politecnico di Milano, such as Head of the Department of Bioengineering (2000-2006), DU President of Biomedical Engineering (1996-2000) and President of the Study Programme Board for Biomedical Engineering (2010-2012).
He was elected member of Advisory Committee 09 - Industrial Engineering of the CUN (National University Committee) for the period 1988-1996. He has been a Visiting Professor at MIT and the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA, and at the Technical University in Lisbon, Portugal.
He has authored over 600 scientific papers indexed on ISI, of which about 300 papers have been published in qualified indexed journals in the field.
