Professor Luigi Solaini was appointed Full Professor at the Engineering Faculty of Politecnico di Milano on 1 November 1950, having been assistant in Topography there since 1 November 1933. He became Full Professor of Photogrammetry at the same Faculty on 1 November 1974. He therefore worked in the University with great dedication for over 50 years, 34 of which as full or non-permanent professor, making an invaluable contribution to the institution, to advanced theoretical and experimental scientific research, and to the education of many engineers.
In all these years he has also offered his valued help and advice to researchers and undergraduates at the Institute of Topography, Photogrammetry and Geophysics, of which he was director for many years. He is a national member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. In 1965 he obtained a diploma with a gold Merit medal from the School of Culture and Art. He also served for four years as president of the International Association of Experimental Photogrammetry and of the European Geophysical Exploration Association.
