Giuseppe Serazzi has been Full Professor of Computer Systems (emeritus since 2015). He graduated in Mathematics from Università di Pavia. He has taught at Università di Pavia, Statale di Milano, Università della Svizzera Italiana and started working at Politecnico di Milano in 1991. He has carried out research in collaboration with many foreign universities in the areas of computer system architectures, from individual servers to clouds, and their performance evaluation. He has primarily focused on techniques for identifying bottlenecks in systems with heterogeneous applications and on optimising their performance. He is an author/co-author of 180 publications (including 14 books) in international journals and conferences.
He has launched, and is still one of the coordinators together with Imperial College London, the JMT Java Modelling Tools project, a suite of open source tools for capacity planning of IT infrastructure that registered 87,000 downloads as of May 2023.

He has been a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley, the University of Maryland College Park and Vanderbilt University Nashville; he has been chairman of several international conferences, including High-Performance Computing and Networking HPCN95 Europe 1995, and Modelling Techniques and Tools for Computer Perf. Evaluation 1991. He has been on the editorial board of the Performance Evaluation Journal, Elsevier.
At Politecnico di Milano, he launched the Acceleratore d'Impresa (Business Accelerator), an incubator for high-tech start-ups, in 2000 and was its Director until 2006 and Rector's Delegate until 2010.
He worked at Olivetti from 1961 to 1978 (director from 1976). He worked as part of Ing. Perotto's research group at the San Giuliano and Pregnana Milanese laboratories, collaborating on the development of hardware managements of various equipment (including the CMC7 character reader, the Auditronic and the P101), and worked at Syntax, an Olivetti software company, on the implementation of basic software for minicomputers.
He was a member of the following boards: Gate 2 Growth Initiative (2004-2008), European Network of technology start-up incubators; PNI Cube (2004-2011), Associazione italiana di incubatori universitari; AI3 (2007-2011), Associazione dei Politecnici di Torino e Milano for the support of incubators and innovative start-ups; and Fondazione del Politecnico di Milano (2007-2011).
