Mission and goals
Biomedical Engineering applies methods and technologies of Engineering to describe, understand and solve issues of medical-biological interest, activating a close interdisciplinary cooperation between engineers, biophysicists, clinicians and biologists.
The Bachelor of Science programme trains future engineers able: 1) to develop new devices, equipment, systems and procedures, for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation; 2) to design and implement new prostheses, artificial organs, life-support systems for acute, elderly and disabled patients; 3) to design and develop advanced and innovative biomaterials; 4) to evaluate the capacity of supporting cellular proliferation in order to rebuild and remodel biological organs and tissues; 5) to manage biomedical technologies in hospitals and health-care institutions.
Possible further education
Subject to evaluation of their academic curriculum, graduates may continue their studies with a Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) programme in Biomedical Engineering. With admission always subject to an evaluation, graduates may choose other Master of Science programmes or 1st level Specializing Masters.
